§ 6-8. Raising, keeping hogs prohibited.

  • Except as provided in this section, it shall be unlawful for any person to raise or keep a hog within the limits of the city. It shall be lawful to raise or keep that breed of hog commonly known as a Vietnamese potbelly pig if the following conditions are met:

    (1)

    Only one such pig shall be allowed per premises;

    (2)

    Said pig shall be duly registered pursuant to all federal, state and local laws;

    (3)

    The keeping or raising of such a pig shall be only as a pet, and not for commercial or pecuniary purposes;

    (4)

    Said pig shall be raised and kept in the enclosed interior of the principal residential structure located on the premises expressly exclusive of carports, garages, and screened porches, and shall only be permitted outside of the confines so described for a maximum of 60 minutes per day. The requirements of this subsection shall not be applicable if:

    a.

    The said pig is housed in an enclosed structure situated no less than five feet from the side boundaries of the premises and no less than 15 feet from the back boundary of the premises; and

    b.

    The pig remains, at all times, on a suitable concrete slab with fencing and a sewer system connection.
