§ 30-31. Size, weight and load of vehicle.

  • (a)

    Unless express permission in writing is granted by the mayor, no vehicle or combination of vehicles operated on the public streets and alleys of the city which are not hard surfaced, shall exceed 50,000 pounds, and no vehicle or combination of vehicles operating thereon shall exceed its licensed gross weight.

    (b)

    Subject to the total gross weight limitation in subsection (a) of this section, no vehicle or combination of vehicles shall be operated on the public streets and alleys of the city in excess of the size, weight and load limitations for such vehicles outlined in sections 32:381 to 32:389, inclusive, of the Revised Statutes of Louisiana (R.S. 32:381 to 32:389), unless express permission in writing is granted by the mayor.

    (c)

    Whenever there shall be any conflict between the city ordinances and the state laws regarding the size, weight and load of vehicles, the ordinance or law which is most restrictive and limiting in size and weight or load limits shall control and apply.

    (d)

    Whenever a special permit is required as provided above, the city may require that the applicant post a bond in favor of the city in an amount sufficient to reimburse the city for damages to the streets and other city property which may reasonably be expected to result from the operation of the vehicle requiring the permit on the city streets or alleys.
