§ 2-8. Chief of police.

  • (a)

    The chief of police shall have general responsibility for law enforcement within the corporate limits of the city.

    (b)

    The chief of police shall enforce all ordinances and all applicable state laws within the corporate limits of the city.

    (c)

    The chief of police shall be responsible for maintenance of law and order within the corporate limits of the city.

    (d)

    The chief of police shall hire and fire personnel within his department with the advice and consent of the mayor and city council; except that the chief of the police department may suspend any officer or other employee of the police department for a period not to exceed ten days.
