§ 38-57. Minimum requirements for extension, connection with municipal water system.

  • It shall be the policy of the city that the following requirements shall be complied with before approval of any proposed extension or connection with its waterworks system:

    (1)

    Unless otherwise required, the minimum size water main will be four inch, inside diameter, cast-iron pipe. The minimum size house service line will be one inch copper tubing.

    (2)

    All mains shall be looped to avoid dead ends. Valves shall be installed as directed by the mayor and city council.

    (3)

    Due consideration shall be given to the requirements of fire protection by the mayor and city council. Should adequate fire protection require the installation of larger size mains, or fire hydrants, they shall be installed.

    (4)

    All costs of the extension and connection shall be borne by the person seeking permission to extend or connect with the municipal water system.

    (5)

    All work shall be performed under the supervision of the city, and a hydrostatic pressure test of 100 p.s.i. shall be required for a minimum of 12 hours prior to acceptance by the city.

    (6)

    Upon approval and acceptance by the city, title to all water lines and appurtenances thereto, forming the said extension or connection, shall vest solely in the city, which will thereafter be solely responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation thereof.
